Description
A set of four earth colours, made from hand-selected rocks.
The rocks are selected purely on the basis of colour by artist Madison Woods - the source being Madison's land in the Ozark mountains of Arkansas (the Ozark mountains are pictured on the left).
Once selected they are then ground by Wallace Seymour with cold pressed linseed oil to create simple, beautiful oil paint.
This creates a limited set of really unique earth hues - extremely sustainably sourced!
Being sourced from the same area, the colours also have distinctly analogous hues, while each maintains its own specific colour.
The four colours are green ochre, yellow ochre, russet ochre and red ochre
In the words of Wallace Seymour;
"Our new earth colours, from the Ozarks Mountains , Arkanas, USA are from natural earth pigment produced by artist Madison Woods, who owns a large tract of land that she ‘farms’ for natural colour:
“My whole approach to gathering anything is to never take too much, and to always be gentle on the land as I can. When I see a good one, I simply pick it up out of the creek, or on the ground wherever it turns up. When I’m hunting a specific colour, I have to walk or wade about a bit longer to find it, if it’s not an abundant one. Or I wait until the next good rain washes new rocks downstream.” "
The set contains 4 x 40ml tubes of oil paint.
