Description

I love how this interacts with light orange when used in landscape painting, it makes some of the most delightful greyish, orange hues imaginable!

Also it is a secondary colour that is very hard to mix cleanly from the primary colours, so very useful in that respect too.

First made from the rare ore of Cobalt Phosphate in the mid-19th century, this is now a synthetic inorganic pigment, of which the lighter shade is closer to the original, natural version.

Cobalt violet light has a delicate violet hue which appears quite opaque in masstone then quickly becomes transparent when applied thinly and particularly stunning when glazed over a white ground.

Tints with white create a very interesting range of bluish pinks.
