Description

A very rich earth, in masstone it is a dark, brick red/chocolate brown. Once tinted with white, blue undertones are visible in the fleshy tints. It is not as violet and cold as the swatch on the left suggests.

The colour is very uniform in tints looking almost flat, overall I would describe the tints providing a wide range of cool flesh hues.

This particular hematite is from the USA.

Red iron oxide or ferric oxide is the principle colouring agent in the natural mineral hematite, which is often associated with varying proportions of other minerals such as clay, chalk and silica.

Natural red oxides, such as hematite, are very opaque, absolutely permanent and have excellent covering power. They are strong absorbers of ultraviolet light.
