Description
I am very excited to be able to offer this hand mulled paint - it is very special.
The paint is made in Derby, England by Tom Robertson - a painter, a teacher and an artistic alchemist!
Formulated by Tom and made using age old, traditional methods - Tom spent several years working on a solution to recreate the handling properties of lead white - he has perfected this paint.
It is the closest in handling I have come across as a viable alternative to using paint which contains lead carbonate. Many have tried to imitate the softer tinting power, the warmer hue and its 'stringy' qualities but none have come this close!
Based on the lithopone pigment and ground in cold-pressed linseed oil, it exhibits almost the same handling properties as the genuine article - I have compared them side by side in various experiments.
It is a dense paint loaded with pigment but not too short.
There are two versions, this one 'S' is the more 'standard' handling as an everyday white and the other one 'R' pushes the stringyness to more of an extreme and is capable of providing some really exceptional and unique effects to the paint body.
Beautifully presented in 40ml tubes with Tom's fine and clear labelling and an excellent hand-painted swatch.
Please see the video below to hear and see Tom talk in more depth about making paint.
