Description
Madder lake is derived from the roots of the Madder plant (Rubia Tinctorum), prepared as a lake gives it greater lightfastness.
In masstone a dark brown, once spread thinly the transparency becomes visible. I found it to be an orange however with quite a crimson edge, not quite as orange as the swatch suggests. This was confirmed when white was added giving coolish, pink tints.
It occured to me how good this would be in a portrait palette when used in conjunction with the Orange Madder, warm and cool, red and orange...you could cover a lot of hues with just these two colours.
Super smooth in consistency.
Obtained through traditional, sustainable methods using chemical free, organic horticulture.
