Description
An opaque, synthetic, iron oxide, like a turbo-charged yellow ochre.
More chroma, more tinting power and warmer than it's natural cousin. Delightful luminous, earthy yellow tints when white is added.
Rublev's description;
"Mars Yellow is an intense ocherous oil colour that makes warm yellowish tints. Originally a brand name in the late 18th century, Mars colors is now the common name for synthetic iron oxide pigments. Their chemical and physical properties are similar to the natural iron oxides.
Mars Yellow, originally named jaune de Mars in the 18th century, is a high tinting iron oxide pigment. We grind it in pale refined linseed oil and age each batch to prevent it from becoming matte upon drying. The very fine particle size of the pigment gives this paint a thick buttery consistency that pulls long with the brushstroke."
