Description
New Gamboge is a more lightfast version of the original plant-based Gamboge, which we sell in the Wallace Seymour range.
This modern version uses the pigment PY150 also known as Nickel Azo Yellow, a transparent orange yellow. In masstone, it is very similar to raw sienna, a yellowish brown hue.
Immediately its transparent nature is visible with the white ground glowing through the paint layer when spread thinly, giving the high chroma vivid orange you can see in the swatch image.
I was surprised at just how powerful a tinter it is when white is added, a tube will go a long way!
The tints have a very wide range from soft muted almost earthy yellows to stronger autumnal orange yellows.
