Description
In masstone (straight out of the tube) this is a deep reddish, purple with a rich chroma. The transparent nature is held back somewhat by the heavy pigment load and to my eye it looks quite opaque in use.
It is a strong tinter and once white is added it produces a large range of mid-temperature violet tints, I guess the Titanium white is cooling it a little.
In my opinion an excellent, cheaper, less toxic, alternative to a Cobalt Violet deep.
Super smooth and buttery in handling.
Michael's description;
"I am proud to be the first oil paint maker to manufacture this shade of Perylene Violet in oil. This truly unique colour is often found in watercolour ranges as opposed to oil. Perylene Violet is a smoky mauve violet with a very unusual caricature. When combined with rich yellows such as Indian Yellow, the colours produce amazing browns and deep gingery shades. This is a subtle colour that may not leap off the palette and dazzle in the way a quinacridone does but is a marvelous addition!"
