Description
A bright scarlet-madder oil colour made from the processed roots of the Madder plant, with the pigment bound in cold pressed linseed oil. An image of the roots is shown above.
The swatch doesn't really convey its beauty. In masstone it appears as a deep scarlet crimson, spread out with a palette knife the colour and transparency are revealed, brightening as the white ground shines through the paint body.
Deep, cool red, earthier than Alizarin crimson.
In tints with Titanium white, it doesn't disappear like some plant pigments and stands up pretty well. A good range of cool pinks are produced, which would be excellent on a portrait palette.
Semi-transparent, suitable for glazes. Silky smooth in handling.
Pure, natural colour of exceptional quality.
